At a recent WACA District Cricket Meeting, WACA indicated to all Clubs that it is facing a significant situation in relation to umpire numbers for the coming season. One of the initiatives they have come up with is to have each and every Club provide at least 2 people to (1) undertake training to become an umpire and (2) to umpire at home grounds should they be called upon from time to time.
WACA have since put a significant financial incentive against each Club to provide these umpires, so it becomes not only important to have competent umpires at games, but it also becomes important from a Cricket Grant achievement/financial point of view.
In the case of Scarborough CC, this would mean having at least 2 people volunteer to undertake umpire training and then be available if required to umpire only at Abbett Park West should the need arise. WACA will provide the umpire shirt and pay for each day at the current agreed umpire rates.
If you have interest, or know someone who may be interested, please ask them to contact any of the below so that we discuss with them in detail the requirements.
The Club is also reaching out across the wider community to find people willing to participate. Your ideas or where and how to canvas are also invited.
Hoping to hear from all interested people soon.
