The Scarborough Cricket Club is saddened by the sudden passing of Life Member and Team of the Century Member Sam Gannon and sends its condolences to his family.

Sam was a significant part of the establishment of SCC as a power in the WACA Premier Cricket, including playing a leading role in our first ever A grade Premiership in 1976/77 Season. Sam was extremely dedicated in everything he did and it was a very common sight to see he charging in for ball after ball in each training session preparing himself for the weekend. A left arm bowler who not only had great control, Sam was certainly feisty in the challenge and was known to be quick with comments to batsmen on how they could maybe improve their technique.

Off field Sam was a true gentleman and would always make the extra effort to say hello. Sam made life long friends at Scarborough, and has left a great legacy at the Club.

Sam was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2017 for his service to cricket.

RIP Sam.
