Scarborough Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Mr. Hylton Deon (HD) Ackerman has been re-appointed as  Club Coach for the 2022/23 season.

Educated at Rondebosch Boys High School in Cape Town, South Africa, Mr. Ackerman played first-class cricket for 15 years including 4 Test Matches for South Africa. A highly talented top-order batsman at Western Province, Ackerman showed his ability to dominate a bowling attack early on. He won his Test call-up against Pakistan in South Africa in 1997-98. In 2001 he was drafted into the squad in Zimbabwe.

At the end of the 2002-03 season he moved to Gauteng (South Africa) where he was appointed captain (he had already led Western Province). During the 2004-05 season, he moved to England to captain Leicestershire. In 2006 under the captaincy of Jeremy Snape, he scored over 1,800 runs in the Championship, including a career-best 309 not out.

He has an impressive CV in coaching and sporting administration including an MBA in Sport (Manchester Metropolitan University), Level III Coaching accreditation in both South Africa and Australia and a Certificate of Competence in Cricket Umpiring from South Africa. He was the Head Batting Coach for the Cricket South Africa High Performance Programme from 2011 – 2016, before moving to Australia.

Since 2017, Ackerman has worked on the international cricket stage as a specialist elite coach with the Namibian and Afghanistan National Cricket Teams, Montreal Tigers (GT20) and was engaged as a consultant to the Indian cricket team. Locally, he coached Guildford Grammar School to their first Darlot Cup in 32 years and worked with Premier League Cricket Clubs Midland Guildford and Wanneroo.

Since 2009, he has worked as an international cricket commentator with ESPN Star, Sunset and Vine, Supersport and IMG, to name a few.
